#4: Most Dangerous (1972)

Description

This film marks the beginning of the Brand Golden Era. After the monumental box office success of Right of Way, producer Big Don Calabria felt he had perfected the Jove Brand formula: big action set pieces, racy sexual encounters, and an lavish lifestyle for Brand (which contradicted the books). Gone was Fletcher’s realism or the toll Brand’s duties took on him as a human being.

In Most Dangerous, Brand takes on a Bacchanalian murder-cult headed by Frank Magnus. Brand, too square to infiltrate the movement, attacks it head-on, culminating in an all-out assault on Magnus’s castle fortress in Istanbul. The Brand Beauty, Irene Athens, is remembered for being portrayed as a capable agent alongside Brand. The birth of Big Don Calabria’s daughter in 1969 may have contributed to this character evolution.
